Advanced Standing MSW—33 hours
To avoid redundancy for BSW graduates, Union University offers an advanced standing option. In order to be considered for admission to the advanced standing program, applicants must have completed their undergraduate degree from a BSW program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) within the last 5 years* and have earned an overall GPA of 3.0** and have a B or higher in all undergraduate core social work courses.
Admission to the MSW Advance Standing program is based on academic performance in all work from regionally accredited or internationally listed colleges and universities. Successful completion of the required 33 hours coursework and 600 hours in an approved social service agency field setting are required for graduation.
Admission Requirements
Admission to the MSW Advanced Standing program is based on the following:
- A bachelor's degree from a CSWE accredited college or university within the last 5 years*
- A cumulative GPA of 3.0** or higher and a B or higher in all undergraduate core social work courses for the Advanced Standing program:

- HBSE I & HBSE II
- Policy
- Practice with Groups
- Practice with Communities and Organizations
- Practice with Individual Families
- Field Practicum
*Advance Standing applicants who earned a BSW degree in excess of 5 years will be reviewed and considered at the discretion of the Union University School of Social Work MSW Admissions Committee. Advance standing applicants who earned a BSW degree in excess of 5 years with an active social work license in good standing with a state board in the U.S. are preferable.
**Advanced standing applicants not meeting the GPA requirement, may submit proof of BSW licensure for additional consideration.
